Traders over time, have evolved many different techniques in trading the market. Some trade fundamentally (Trading based on the macro and micro news events surrounding an economy) while others trade Technically (Trading based on reading the charts with or without the aid of indicators).
In my 6years of Trading the markets, I have had to try several of these methods. While I made a few hundreds and sometimes Thousands of dollars in the process, I never was able to gain any form of consistency in my trading. Suffice to say, many accounts of mine crashed out.
While crashing accounts could be said to be part of what one would experience in one's trading life, it should, never the less, come to an end at a point in ones trading career; as you mature and gain more skills. However, it does rarely work that way. Many traders still find it difficult to maintain consistency and another lot have never really managed to make any significant profits from all their years in the art. Sad, but it is the simple truth.
A huge chunk of the reasons for this massive failure in trading the markets is the lack of proper training. I have seen successful News based traders, therefore, if you get properly trained in the art of news trading, you could get profitable but when I say the NEWS, I do not mean waiting for the release times of various news event and trying to make quick pips from the huge volatility associated with them and most times, traders get burnt due to many reasons like increased spreads, slippages, internet connections problems, not to talk about the maniulations of many forex brokers (Usually Market Makers). The odds are stacked hugely against you, therefore there is little chance of making anything good from those news events. A real fundamental trader is trained not to act on impulse.
Trading the forex market based on Technical Analysis accommodates a huge chunk of forex traders and many depend on indicators to tell them when to place buy or sell orders, however, having to depend on indicators is one sure way of ruining your account. Apart from the oscillators, which could be used to trade divergences, All other indicators lag and most times cluster the charts, preventing the Trader from seeing the most important thing: PRICE.
